Are you sitting? We have an Announcement!

We are so proud to announce that DayBreak Salon received a $10,000 Backing Small Businesses Grant presented by @AmericanExpress, in partnership with @Main Street America.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, American Express and Main Street America announced the 500 small business owners who have been awarded $10,000 through the Backing Small Businesses grant program. The program’s 2024 grant recipients represent U.S. small businesses across all 50 states, plus D.C. and Puerto Rico. Later this year, grantees will have the opportunity to apply for an additional $30,000 enhancement grant that will be awarded to 25 small businesses.

Since launching in 2021, Backing Small Businesses has provided over $9 million in grants to 1,180 small business owners nationwide. American Express and Main Street America initially created the grant program to help economically vulnerable small business owners recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and grow their businesses.

This program is part of American Express’ “Backing Small” initiative to provide financial support and resources to small business owners experiencing economic hardships. Other Backing Small grant programs include Backing Historic Small Restaurants and Backing International Small Restaurants. Backing Small is an extension of American Express’ longstanding commitment to support small independent businesses globally, including through its Shop Small movement and Small Business Saturday campaign, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

"We have exciting plans for this generous grant!," says owner, Lindsey Havard. "Later in July, a group of selected stylists will be making a trip to Monroe, Georgia, to visit the Mirnera Beauty Showroom! We will be carefully examining their selection of styling chairs, to make a decision, and put in an order for 9 of them! Each of our styling stations will be getting a brand new chair!"

"When looking for a new chair," explains Lindsey, "these are the things we will consider:

  • The height range: how high the chair goes is really important for our taller team members and how low the chair goes is equally important for our shorter team members. Finding a chair with a wide hydraulic pumping range, makes it so that the chair design will work for all team members and clients.

  • The seat comfort: we know that sometimes your visits are several hours long, so it is especially important for us to find a chair with a very comfortable seat!

  • The base: the traditional stainless steel base is hard to keep clean in a busy salon, so we prefer the upgraded black, powder-coated base.

  • The leather color and design: as you can imagine, the visual appeal is high on our list of importance. We will save the details of design for the final reveal coming in September 2024!

As mentioned above, this grant comes with an AMAZING opportunity for additional funds of $30,000. We have dreams of installing solar panels so that our building can support our hard-working team, with less of an impact on the precious environment around us! The solar project is quoted at $65,000 and the additional grant would make that possible for us!"
